“We are fish in a bowl, dear. Very carefully monitored fish. Watched from all angles. If on of us floats to the top, it was not accidental. And if it was an accident, I worry that the watchers are not as careful as they should be.”

– The Night Circus by Erin  Morgenstern

I asked God

I asked God to take away my pain,
God said, “No. It is not for me to take away, but to you to give up.”
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, “No. Her spirit was whole. Her body was only temporary.”
I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, “No. Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.”
I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, “No. You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitfull.”
I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, “No. I gave you life so that you might enjoy all things.”
I asked God to help me love others, as much as he loves me.
God said, “Ahh, finally you have the idea.”

You are okay. You are a child of God. As is everyone else. There is nothing that you can become or do that will make God love you any more or any less. Nothing that you already are or will become is a surprise to God. Tomorrow has already been approved.

Glennon Doyle Melton

If a person feels a longing to be at one with the universe, it is as if the universe feels the same longing to be at one with the person.  If I sense a great aching in my heart to be in love with God, it seems that God must in some mysterious way share that aching for me.

“It may be that our role on this planet is not to worship God but to create him.” -Arthur C. Clarke

God comes to give us strength to abide inside ourselves, even with our fear, and to reach outside ourselves to others, to touch them with life, not death.
